The Local Race program consists of an annual event hosted by a local franchise of the All-American Soap Box Derby. The NHSBD holds our event typically on the first Sunday in June, held on Broadway in Dover, NH. Past events have been held in other cities in NH including: Manchester and Somersworth.
A neighborhood, city or state can define a “Local”. Participants complete within their division against other racers from the surrounding area. A racers location from the starting line of the local event to their school defines their eligibility to participate in a local. A double elimination racing format is used to determine the winner, where losing two heats (consisting of two phases against the same competitor) determines advancing,
Soap Box Derby racing in New Hampshire goes back for generations. Since 1939 the NHSBD has held Local Championship events. There have been families with grandparents, parents and current racers trackside. Over the years, NH racers have been successful competitors in the All-American Soap Box Derby World Championship in Akron, Ohio.
* During WWI and Covid-19 years the race was postponed
